DNV-GL study about CO2 reduction

The Dutch refinery sector can reduce annual CO₂ emissions by 5.5 Megatonnes by 2030. This is a quarter of the 19.4 Mt CO₂ reduction challenge that the cabinet set for the industry for 2030. The technology that can make the biggest contribution towards this reduction is CCS (Carbon Capture Storage). The sector can use the capture and storage of CO₂ to reduce CO₂ emissions by over 4 Mt. This is stated in the ‘Dutch refineries CO₂ reduction roadmap’ study, conducted by advice agency DNV-GL,...

Winds of Change: Global Shipping, Decarbonisation & Wind Propulsion

The Ecoliner

HAMBURG – NOVEMBER 06, 2018: A wide consensus that the global shipping fleet must decarbonize has catalysed over the past 12 months since the Bonn meeting of the UNFCCC COP23 and calls for shipping to move faster on this. We had the IMO initial strategy of at least 50% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2050 in April, spurred on further by the recent IPCC 1.5C report calling for 45% reductions by 2030 to avoid the worst climate change scenarios. Against this policy backdrop, a worldwide...

Chiquita’s upgraded fleet reduces emissions

Global banana supplier says comprehensive upgrade of refrigerated containers has led to a 17,000t decline in CO2 emissions

Banana giant Chiquita has announced an annual reduction of 17,000 tonnes in CO2 emissions thanks to an overhaul of its refrigerated container fleet.

In 2009, Chiquita began a comprehensive upgrade of its 15,000-strong fleet of 40ft containers and by the end of 2017 almost 12,000 old containers had been replaced.

Despite a 25 percent increase in its overall number of...

‘Just-in-time’ sailing saves tonnes of CO2

If sea-going vessels were better informed about the availability of berths and adapted their speed accordingly, substantial savings could be made in terms of fuel and CO2 emissions. This conclusion is based on a study that was recently commissioned by the Port of Rotterdam Authority and research institute TNO.

If sea-going vessels are regularly kept informed – particularly during the last twelve hours before arrival – about exactly when their berth will become available, they will be able to...

Boskalis To Reduce CO2 Emissions Using Sustainable Biofuel On Borssele Renewable Energy Project

Boskalis

Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis) will use a biofuel blend on the project to install the export cable to the Borssele offshore wind farm resulting in a more sustainable realization of this renewable energy project.

The Borssele Alpha project is being executed on behalf of TenneT and is aimed at connecting the Borssele offshore grid with the Dutch high-voltage grid. During this project, Boskalis will run its vessels on a biofuel blend of up to 30 percent. As of last week the large...
