USCG continues to support post-Ida recovery efforts

The U.S. Guard reports that it continues to respond to impacts to waterways and to assess the environmental threats across Southeast Louisiana, post-Hurricane Ida.

In partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Navy Supervisor of Salvage and Diving (SUPSALV) the Coast Guard is continuing efforts to re-open waterways impacted by Hurricane Ida in the areas of Bayou Lafourche, Houma Navigation Canal and portions of the Intracoastal Waterway.

USCG lifts Lower Mississippi “daylight only” deep-draft vessel restriction

The Coast Guard captain-of-the-port, New Orleans, Capt. Will Watson, has lifted daylight transit only restrictions for deep-draft vessels operating south of Mile 203 on the Lower Mississippi River.

USCG conducts underway inspections of small passenger vessels off California

In the wake of the deadly fire on the dive boat Conception, safety compliance checks are being conducted underway on smaller, U.S. inspected passenger vessels operating off the California coast. Ida: Recovery efforts get underway

As parts of the eastern U.S. woke up today to deal with the lingering but still damaging effects of the remnants of Ida, recovery efforts in the Gulf Coast area continued. Port NOLA container terminal project moves ahead

Coast Guard arrests Maryland fishing boat operator

U.S. Coast Guard Fifth District, Annapolis, Md., reports that on July 21 Coast Guard Investigative Service special agents arrested the operator of a charter boat called Fishing Lady for violating a U.S. Coast Guard Captain of the Port Order issued pursuant to the Ports and Waterways Safety Act.

The Coast Guard says that the operator, Terrance Dale Roy, also failed to properly report a hazardous condition as required by regulations and operated his boat in a grossly negligent manner.

Kirby awarded $17.4 million in Houston Channel collision case

In a July 8 ruling, U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Vincent Brown has awarded Kirby Inland Marine $17,398,488 in a case stemming from the May 10, 2019, Houston Ship Channel incident in which the LPG carrier Genesis River collided with a 297 foot long tank barge being pushed ahead by the 69 foot long Kirby Inland Marine towing vessel Voyager.
