For those of us who have been following the project from its earliest days, this has been a long-awaited development: SWITCH Maritime’s hydrogen fuel cell powered ferry the Sea Change has now received its U.S. Coast Guard Certificate of Inspection (COI). With the COI, the vessel is now able to commence commercial operations, delivering a zero-emission public ferry service.

NTSB to release results of California dive boat investigation

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) in October will disclose the results of its investigation of the Sept. 2, 2019 fatal fire aboard the dive boat Conception that killed 33 passengers and one crew.

Coast Guard now offering customizable Subchapter M training programs

The Towing Vessel National Center of Expertise has launched a new training hub that allows industry compliance officers or operators, third party organization representatives, and Coast Guard marine inspectors to request customizable, in-person Subchapter M training sessions that are based on the latest policy and Coast Guard perspective on the selected topics.

On Jan. 10, Robbins Maritime Inc., Norfolk, Va., received a Certificate of Inspection (COI) on its 78′ tug Delta. This was the first Coast Guard option COI issued by U.S. Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads, Va., according to Robbins Maritime officials.
