Port Houston orders $106M worth of cranes to handle demand

With record-breaking volumes at its terminals, Port Houston recently purchased 29 electric cranes to accommodate the increased demand.

The port ordered 26 hybrid rubber-tired gantry (RTG) cranes for its Barbours Cut and Bayport Container terminals from Konecranes Inc. for $65.2 million. Fourteen of the RTG cranes will be used at Barbours Cut and 12 will be for the Bayport terminal.

UK, US kill merger between port crane makers Cargotec and Konecranes

Cargotec and Konecranes, two of the largest global manufacturers of shipyard and container handling cranes for ports, announced Tuesday they are abandoning their planned merger after U.K. antitrust regulators blocked the transaction and the U.S. threatened legal action.

Tacoma to welcome the new NWSA container cranes

The new container cranes come closer and closer to Tacoma. A huge ship carrying four super-post-Panamax container cranes is scheduled to travel through Puget Sound March 5 to Tacoma.

The cranes are the same with the four that arrived in the Pacific Northwest last year. They are also among the largest on the West Coast.

Puget Sound Pilots are scheduled to board the Zhen Hua 31, a 771-foot-long heavy-lift ship, Tuesday (March 5) morning in Port Angeles and begin the journey to Tacoma.

Three giant container cranes reached Auckland ports

Three giant new container cranes are soaring above Auckland after their arrival from China.

The cranes, which stand 82.3 metres tall and weigh 2,100 tonnes, arrived by ship after three weeks of sailing, creating a dramatic sight as they entered the Waitematā Harbour.
