LA/Long Beach ports delay excess container dwell fees until Nov. 29

The ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach for a second time have postponed collection of a new surcharge on long-dwelling containers, saying progress by ocean carriers and shippers has reduced the amount of aging containers on the docks by a third. Fees will not be assessed before Nov. 29, the port authorities said Monday.

CMA CGM acquiring Port of LA’s Fenix Marine Services

The CMA CGM Group announced it will become the sole owner of the Fenix Marine Services (FMS) terminal at the Port of Los Angeles by acquiring the remaining 90% stake in a deal with an enterprise value of $2.3 billion. 

“After closing, the CMA CGM Group will take over the operations of this strategic industrial facility with a goal of improving its service quality to better deliver upon its customers’ expectations,” Wednesday’s announcement said.

Ocean carriers will pass on fines for lingering containers to importers

Logistics industry professionals say retailers and other cargo owners will ultimately bear the cost of drastic new fees announced Monday by the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach in response to mounting congestion disrupting the entire U.S. economy.

Port of Melbourne invests to accommodate bigger ships

Port of Melbourne will extend Webb Dock East Berth 4/5, enabling more ships to be berthed at the port.
