Shippers eye new routes to market as port of Melbourne fees skyrocket

Spiralling terminal access fees at the port of Melbourne are forcing cargo owners to consider alternative shipping routes, according to the Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA).

Major Indian port plans to develop two container terminals

V.O.C Chidambaranar Port Trust has planned to develop two container terminals in the port soon.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday on the sidelines of a ‘Shipping Summit’ in which various stakeholders in the industry participated, Chairman T.K. Ramachandran said that the port had seen an increase in container traffic, while it had witnessed a downfall in bulk cargo traffic this year.

Kalmar to equip Buenos Aires terminals

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has signed an agreement with Exolgan S.A. to supply a total of four rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTGs) with hybrid drivelines for its container terminal in Buenos Aires, Argentina. EU finds no aid given to container terminals by Antwerp port (Reuters)

The European Commission said on Friday (Nov. 23) it had concluded that deals struck between the state-owned Port of Antwerp and two container terminals operating there did not involve state aid.

The port, which is fully owned by the city of Antwerp, concluded 42-year concession agreements with operators PSA Antwerp NV [PSAIN.UL] and Antwerp Gateway NV [DPWRD.UL] in 2004 for container shipments.

Vinalines to build container terminals at Lach Huyen Port

Vinalines is seeking approval from the government for building two container terminals at Lach Huyen Port in northern Hai Phong City.

Nguyen Canh Tinh, director of the state-run Vietnam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines), said its subsidiary, Haiphong Port JSC, would build terminals No.3 and No.4 at the port.
