Port of Kobe sees decreased container traffic

The volume of containerised shipments handled at the Port of Kobe in 2019 fell 2.7% from the previous year to 2,864,145TEU  according to preliminary figures released today. Oceangoing shipments amounted to 2,185,294TEU, down 1.5%. Exports accounted for 1,178,487TEU, down 2%, while the remaining 1,006,807TEU was import cargo, which was down 1%.

Japan-China container traffic drops

Exports from Japan to China plunged 13% to 850,474 tonnes in November 2019, registering a year-on-year contraction for the ninth consecutive month, according to figures compiled by the Japan Maritime Center (JMC) from trade statistics unveiled by the Ministry of Finance (MOF).

Outbound containers from Asia to Europe decreased 3.4% to 1,351,627 TEUs in September, registering the first year-on-year shrinkage in seven months, according to a report unveiled by the Japan Maritime Center (JMC). India’s box traffic grows

The combined volume of containerized shipments processed at India’s 12 state-run ports in April-October 2019 was 5.94 million TEUs, up 2.8% from a year earlier, according to the Indian Ports Association (IPA).

Outbound containers traded from 10 major countries and regions in Asia to the U.S. in October fell 9.8% to 1,454,613 TEUs, suffering a year-on-year contraction for two months in a row, according to statistics unveiled by American research company Descartes Datamyne. South Korea-Japan box trade falls

Containers on the South Korea-Japan trade amounted to 153,200 TEUs in August, down 1% year on year, according to statistics compiled by the Korea Nearseas Freight Conference (KNFC). Local containers accounted for 53,200 TEUs, down 10%, consisting of 28,000 TEUs from South Korea to Japan, down 8%, and 25,200 TEUs from Japan to South Korea, down 12%. Local containers suffered the first double-digit contraction in 10 years, or since 2009.

Cross Strait box traffic falls in Jan-Sept

In September, 201,273 TEUs of containers were directly traded between Taiwan and China, decreasing 8.4% year on year from 219,731 TEUs, the former’s Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) unveiled on Oct. 25.
