Estonia-based energy company Eesti Gaas has placed an order with Damen Group for the construction of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunker vessel.

The short-sea vessel will provide ship-to-ship LNG bunkering services to the LNG-fuelled vessels operating in the North-East region of the Baltic Sea and onshore clients.

Damen Yichang Shipyard in China will build the 99.80m-long and 18.60m-wide vessel, which will be designed to carry 6,000m³ of LNG in two type-C tanks at -163°C.

A consortium of Van Oord and DEME Group subsidiary Dredging International has secured a €313m contract to upgrade the Świnoujście-Szczecin fairway in Poland.

The design and build contract will include the deepening and widening of the fairway along a 62km section to -12.5m from the current -10.5m.

The investment will be made by the Maritime Office in Szczecin with an aim to improve access to the Szczecin seaport and boost the port’s capacity to handle an increasing volume of cargo.

Indian Ports Association (IPA) has selected Tech Mahindra as a managed service provider for five major ports at Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Deendayal Port and Paradip Port Trust.

The Ocean Cleanup, a non-profit organisation that aims to remove plastic from oceans, has selected Iridium Communications as its preferred satellite communications services provider.

Under the deal, Iridium will provide L-band satellite broadband services in collaboration with its service provider, The AST Group.

The Iridium broadband terminals will receive data from a set of sensors and data-gathering equipment hosted by each floating plastic collecting system deployed by Ocean Cleanup.

US-based shipping service provider International Seaways has awarded a contract to Norway’s Clean Marine to purchase and install exhaust gas cleaning systems (scrubbers) on seven of its very large crude carriers (VLCCs).

The contract also includes an option for three additional systems for the remaining three modern VLCCs operated by International Seaways.
