Port of Seattle considers waterfront improvements

The Port of Seattle Commission will unveil next week, plans for $348 million in order to develop a fourth cruise ship terminal and invest in other waterfront improvements.

According to local reports, the port has been in conversation with Seattle’s mayor about renovating its existing cruise terminals, adding one more, and making improvements to the waterfront, a plan that it calls Waterfront 2040.

Carnival launches cruise joint venture in China

The world’s largest cruise company, Carnival Corporation, announced the imminent launch of its cruise joint venture with China’s largest shipbuilder, China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), under the name ‘CSSC Carnival Cruise Shipping Limited’. AECO helps Greenlandic town establish guidelines for tourists

Sisimiut has become the first Greenlandic town to launch its own Community Specific Guidelines. The guidelines inform tourists on how to be thoughtful visitors. Iceland now included in AECO’s geographical range

The Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators (AECO) has included Iceland in its geographical range. Guidelines and other measures will also be applied to ensure sustainable expedition cruise operations in Iceland.

As of today, AECO’s geographical range includes Svalbard, Jan Mayen, Greenland, Arctic Canada and the Russian Arctic National Park, and from 2019 also Iceland. At least 25% of AECO’s operating members have itineraries that already include or will include Iceland in the future.

The Port of Vancouver announced the end of the cruise season, as the last cruise ship, ‘Emerald Princess’, departed from the Port today (October 19), heading to LA and then Hawaii.
