Daimler Trucks US full-year sales fall 30% as independence nears

Soon-to-be-independent Daimler Trucks AG struggled to a loss-making 2020 as fourth-quarter revenue fell 6%. But the near future looks brighter as new truck orders surged triple digits in the quarter.

The unit of Daimler AG sold 8% fewer trucks in North America in Q4. Orders for new equipment surged 136%. 

Overall, Daimler Trucks production fell 3% in the fourth quarter. Builds and retail sales both slid 27% for the year.

Daimler Trucks North America gets new CEO with Nielsen’s retirement

Market leader Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) is getting a new CEO with the retirement of current leader Roger Nielsen.

The Daimler Truck AG Board of Management appointed John O’Leary as president and CEO effective April 1. He will oversee the division that sells about four in 10 trucks in the U.S.

DTNA brands are Freightliner, Western Star, Thomas Built Buses, Freightliner Custom Chassis Corp. and Detroit Diesel Corp.

Volvo Group reports lower 2020 sales but strong profit margins

From the depths of a pandemic-impacted second quarter, Sweden’s Volvo Group (OTC: VLVLY) finished 2020 with lower sales but a strong profit margin. New truck orders surged between the third and fourth quarters.
