Rotterdam-headquartered Van Oord has installed selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems on its 2014-built cable-laying vessel Nexus, making it fully IMO Tier III compliant. The work was carried out by the vessel’s original builder, Damen Shipyards Group, at Damen Ship Repair Amsterdam.

The Nexus is a Damen Offshore Carrier (DOC) 8500 measuring 122.68 x 27.45 meters that undertakes cable laying operations principally in the offshore wind sector.

MARIN confirms high propulsion efficiency of Schottel SRP-D

Schottel reports that, at the request of the Damen Group, the Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN) has carried out extensive research to demonstrate the added value of the Schottel RudderPropeller Dynamic (SRP-D) for offshore wind commissioning service operation vessels (CSOVs). An earlier study had already demonstrated a reduced DP footprint and fuel savings, and this latest research focused particularly on propulsion efficiency during thruster interactions.

VIDEO: First of new Windcat Elevation hydrogen-powered CSOVs launches

Damen Shipyards, Windcat and CMB.TECH have held a ceremony celebrating the launch of the first of six Windcat Elevation Series of future-proof offshore wind farm Commissioning Service Operation Vessels (CSOVs).

The launch ceremony took place October 12 at Ha Long Shipyard in Vietnam, where Damen is constructing all six CSOVs. With this first CSOV in the water, Damen will continue with its outfitting and commissioning operations to prepare the vessel for delivery in second quarter2025.

Damen to build two new fully-electric ferries for City of Toronto

Damen has signed a contract with the City of Toronto for the delivery of two fully-electric ferries. They will operate between the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal in downtown Toronto and the Toronto Islands, a major tourist destination, located in a high traffic area close to the shores of Lake Ontario.

Damen books Colombian Navy frigate contract

Colombian shipbuilder COTECMAR has signed a contract that will see Damen support it in the construction of a Colombian Navy frigate. Under the contract, Damen will supply COTECMAR with technical support and the supply of components for the frigate. Formally (and lengthily) described as “
the Plataforma Estratégica de Superficie (PES) – Strategic Surface Platform),” it will be the first frigate to be built in Colombia and will be based on Damen’s SIGMA 10514 model.
