Sanctioned Russian Arctic LNG Project Awakens After Winter With Gas Flaring Visible at Both Production Lines

Russia has apparently turned the lights back on at its sanctioned Arctic LNG 2 plant. Images taken by the European Sentinel 2 satellite reveal flaring at both production lines, Train 1 and Train 2, as well as the adjacent main flare.

Dark fleet suspect arrested in Miami

Taskin Torlak, a 37-year old Turkish national, was arrested in Miami, Nov. 2, and is currently being held in the Miami Federal Detention Center. He has been charged with conspiring to violate U.S. sanctions in a dark fleet scheme to transport oil from Venezuela for the benefit of Petróleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PdVSA), Venezuela’s state-owned oil and natural gas company.

U.K. cracks down on 10 ships in Putin’s “shadow fleet”

The U.K. has sanctioned 10 vessels in Russia’s “shadow fleet” of ships that use illicit practices to avoid sanctions on Russian oil. This is the third time that the U.K. has sanctioned individual vessels, targeting those who undermine sanctions and facilitate Russia’s oil trade.
