Tank barge deliveries spiking in 2019

The number of inland tank barge deliveries during the first half of 2019 are up 52% over same time last year deliveries, according to River Transport News.

RTN’s mid-year survey of new inland tank barge delivery activity shows “the inland barge industry operating on the Mississippi River System and its connecting waterways took delivery of 50 new inland tank barges during the first six months of 2019.”

Metal Shark Alabama to build towboats for Florida Marine

Metal Shark Alabama, Bayou La Batre, Ala., has announced a new contract to build three 120’x35′ river towboats for Florida Marine Transporters Inc., Mandeville, La.

The four-decked, welded-steel, USCG Subchapter “M”-compliant towboats were designed by John W. Gilbert Associates Inc., Hingham, Mass., and will be powered by twin Caterpillar 3512C Tier 3 marine diesel engines rated at 1,911 hp each. Construction is underway at Metal Shark Alabama, with deliveries commencing in 2019.
