Ships detained in Paris MoU region during November

The Paris MoU has issued its list of ship detentions for November 2019. The details of detentions are entered in the information system of the Paris MoU after the ship has been released.

Due to technical issues this list was not based on release date but on detention date. The lists are from now on again based on the release date.

The number of times a ship has been detained during a 24 month period is because of the NIR (New Inspection Regime) now a 36 month period and is included in the list.

Iran detains vessel for fuel smuggling in Strait of Hormuz

According to Bloomberg, Iran detained a vessel, along with the crewmembers onboard the vessel, which was transmitting smuggled fuel near the entrance of the Strait of Hormuz.

Specifically, the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency report the incident, highlighting that following the vessel’s detention, the authorities also detained 16 Malaysian crew members.

Foreign flagged vessels detained in the UK in October

The UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) announced that during October there were six new detention of foreign flagged vessels in a UK port, while six foreign flagged ships remained under detention during August 2019 after failing port state control (PSC) inspection.

Paris MoU detains two vessels flying under “black” flags

Paris MoU reports the ban of two vessels that both were flying under “black” flags based on the current Paris MoU WGB list; Both vessels mark the third and fourth detention  in the Paris MoU region within the last 36 months.

Paris MoU denies access to Comoros-flagged vessel

Paris MoU reports the detention of the vessel, M/V Regga, on October 3, 2019, marking its third detention in the last 36 months; The vessel is not allowed to enter or anchor any port within the Paris MoU region.

Specifically, the vessel was detained in Port Chioggia, Italy, flying under the flag of Comoros, which is black on the current Paris MoU WGB list.

UK MCA boards cargo that departed Sweden without permission

Scandinavian Coast Guard asked the UK MCA to board the Rix Emerald following allegations that the vessel departed Sweden without permission, and disappeared when the Swedish Transport Agency tried to detain the vessel, as the Courier reports.

The Rix Emerald, registered with the Baltic Shipping Company and flying the Cypriot flag, departed from Lilla Edet to Montrose. While going down the Göta River on Friday, it experienced technical problems; the vessel was transmitting a load of oats.

Detentions for ‘illegal anchoring’ in Indonesia continue

Vessels continue to be detained by Indonesian authorities while at anchor in waters around the island of Bintan. The ships believed that they had anchored at OPL Singapore, but had in fact anchored within Indonesian territorial waters.

Vessels detained after boy goes missing

Three inter-island Taio Shipping Limited vessels have been detained by the Ministry of Transport in the Cook Islands, after a young boy from Auckland disappeared from a vessel last month.

The seven-year old boy was lost when on board the MV Lady Moana, travelling from Rakahanga to Rarotonga.

The Lady Moana, together with sister ships Grinna II and Maungaroa II have been suspended by Ministry of Transport investigators in Rarotonga’s Avatiu harbour.
