Forto secures Series C and unicorn status, credits partnerships and culture

Berlin-based Forto, a digital freight forwarder also known as FreightHub, announced Monday it has secured $240 million in a Series C round led by SoftBank Vision Fund 2. Past investors Northzone, Iven Capital, Cherry Ventures and Unbound and newest investors Citi Ventures and G Squared also participated in the round.

The company has raised a total of $360 million since 2016 and, after its latest raise, is valued at $1.2 billion.

Sennder valued over $1B after $80M Series D extension

On Tuesday, Sennder, a digital freight forwarder based in Berlin, closed on an additional $80 million in funds, an extension to its Series D round that raised $160 million in January. The extension was led by Baillie Gifford, with Hedosophia, Accel, Lakestar, HV Capital, Project A and Scania participating in the previous Series D raise.

German digital freight forwarder Senderr raises $160M

German freight technology startup Sennder has raised $160 million in Series D financing, surpassing a $1 billion valuation as it seeks to expand services and acquisitions across the European freight markets.

The company did not divulge the name of the lead investor, but round participants included Accel, Lakestar, HV Capital, Project A and Scania.

Founded in 2015, Sennder has grown its headcount to 800 employees who work across seven European offices.

Booming online freight sales producing a ‘golden age’ for SME forwarders

The rapid uptick in digital freight sales means first-mover advantage is over, according to Freightos.
But, it adds, the industry has entered a “golden age” for SME forwarders.

Shipwaves goes with TradeLens information flow

Digital freight forwarder Shipwaves has joined TradeLens, the blockchain-enabled shipping platform developed by A.P. Møller – Maersk and IBM.

Shipwaves, based in Mumbai, India, said the move is aimed at accelerating the digitization of ocean logistics, particularly in India and the Middle East. $28bn invested in freight start-ups since 2015 – most in last-mile and B2C
