Five-year-old Liam Salmon lost his nearly year-long battle to a rare type of brain tumor on New Year’s Day. 

His infectious smile and love of big rigs and John Deere tractors captured the hearts of many in the trucking industry and agriculture community, who rallied around Liam to grant his wish for mail for his fifth birthday wish in October. Law enforcement agencies from across the country mailed him patches, calling him “Officer Liam.”

Liam Salmon, who is battling a rare pediatric brain tumor, had a simple request for his fifth birthday: mail. And boy, did he get his wish. 

After spending a week in the hospital, including his birthday, Oct. 22, Liam and his parents, Howard and Mary Salmon, of Anderson, California, arrived home late Tuesday to a mountain of packages and mail from across the U.S., Canada and the United Kingdom.

Independent owner-operator Howard Salmon’s son, Liam, who will be 5 on Thursday, is battling a rare pediatric brain tumor with no cure.

Howard and Mary Salmon, who live in Anderson, California, noticed in early January that Liam had difficulty walking. They also observed he wasn’t using his left hand, which was odd because Liam is left-handed.
