DP World enhances Antwerp Gateway with new container equipment

The Finnish port equipment manufacturer Kalmar has received a large order for nine Kalmar hybrid straddle carriers from its long-term client DP World.

The new machines will be installed at the Antwerp Gateway terminal of DP World in Belgium with delivery being expected in the fourth quarter of 2023.

DP World nears 80 million TEUs in 2022

DP World handled 79 million TEUs throughout its global portfolio of container terminals in the previous year, with its gross container volumes increasing by 1.4% year-on-year. Additionally, the UAE-based operator reported 19.5 million TEUs in the last quarter of 2022.

DP World’s flagship box terminal in Jebel Ali saw 14 million TEUs in 2022, which represents a 1.7% increase compared with 2021 numbers.

DP World achieves strong volume growth in 2021

DP World has handled 58.4 million TEU across its container terminals globally during the first nine months of the year, representing an increase of almost 12% in comparison to the January – September period of the previous year.

Additionally, during the third quarter, the Dubai-based port and terminal operator completed 19.8 million TEU in total, reflecting a rise of more than 8% compared to the same period of 2020.

Five Leading Port Groups promote sustainability

Five of the world’s leading container port operators have jointly undertaken a week-long initiative to promote sustainable resource usage in their respective port and facility networks.
