Contship New escapes pirates but threat still high

An attack on the 1,080TEU vessel Contship New on 23 April was foiled when security forces arrived with the crew secure in the citadel according to security firm Dryad Global.

The vessel continued on its journey under escort following the attack on the ship, however, Dryad Global has warned that there remains a very high level of risk in the West Africa region.

Contship New attacked southwest of Nigeria

Security firm Dryad Global is reporting an ongoing incident involving the container ship Contship New which was reportedly boarded by pirates at around 10:30hrs UTC, crew members were reported mustered in the citadel.

China accused of continuing cyber-attacks on Indian ports

Chinese state sponsored hackers have been accused by a US based cyber-security firm of actively penetrating India’s national infrastructure’s cyber defences, including two ports and the country’s power system.

According to Boston headquartered security firm Recorded Future, relations between India and China deteriorated following last May’s border clash which saw around 20 Indian troops killed near the Himalayan border town of Ladakh, in Kashmir, the first deaths in combat for 45 years.

ODIANOSEN - Nigerian-Flagged Offshore Crew Transfer Vessel

Reporting indicates that a Nigerian flagged offshore crew transfer vessel, acting in the capacity of a security escort vessel has been attacked resulting in the death of two personnel.

Early reporting indicates that the vessel had 8 crew a PMSC liaison officer and 7 Nigerian Navy personnel.

The vessel is understood to have been inbound to an RV with the vessel and not under escorting duties at the time of the attack.
