Golden Ray: Barge preparations continue

Modifications are made to barge to prepare it to receive section of Golden Ray wreck

Though the giant heavy lift ship VB 10000 has made its final cut through the hull of the capsized car carrier Golden Ray, the last two of the wreck’s original eight sections remain in St. Simons Sound, Ga., with responders making the preparations needed to get them on their way to recycling.

Vessel Repair puts new drydock and transfer system into operation

Port Arthur, Texas, based Vessel Repair reported that its new 280′ drydock and a two-barge transfer system were put into service in July 2020. The first docking and transfer on to land was a 30,000-bbl. barge for Golding Barge Line. Golding was also the first customer to build a pushboat with Vessel Repair.

The drydock has been built as a direct result of a Marad small shipyard grant awarded in June 2019.

According to a Riviera Maritime Media article, H2 2019 will see a rush of tankers squeezing in Eco retrofits before the IMO 2020 deadline.
