Marine Log (ML): First off, tell us about Royal Barge Fleeting and how it got started?

Jessica Branham (JB): I was approached by a member of Cummings Marine Board of Directors in early October. He asked if I was interested in setting up and running a startup/sister company, primarily focusing on dry cargo in the Memphis area. I was intrigued and came down for a visit. After visiting, meeting the family, crew members and the area, I decided to take on the role and Royal Barge Fleeting came to be.

Dubai shipyard takes express delivery of Thordon’s largest ever rudder bearing

After a recent visit to the Drydocks World Dubai shipyard, a 7,506 TEU containership is now sailing with the largest rudder bearing ever manufactured by Thordon Bearings.

The 2001-built vessel, operated by a European owner, was retrofitted with a 1,230 mm (4 foot) long, 1.111 mm (3.6 foot) diameter SXL bearing after its original bronze rudder bearing required replacement due to excessive wear.

The U.S. Navy’s Military Sealift Command has awarded Alabama Shipyard, Mobile, Ala., a $25,964,083 firm-fixed-price contract (N3220522C4031) for a 150-calendar day shipyard availability for the regular overhaul and drydocking of the Military Sealift Command’s hospital ship USNS Comfort (T-AH 20).

Navy awards BAE Jacksonville contract for modernization of two destroyers

BAE Systems has won an $83.5 million U.S. Navy contract to modernize the guided-missile destroyers USS Carney (DDG 64) and USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG 81).
