PSA withdraws from Tuticorin three years ahead of schedule

India’s PSA Sical, a joint venture of PSA (62.5%) and local Sical (37.5%), has withdrawn prematurely from its concession to operate Berth 7 at Tuticorin, which was supposed to end in 2028, according to DynaLiners report.

The decision is attributed to a decrease in container volumes, high contractually mandated royalties, and a lack of infrastructure support from the port authority, according to DynaLiners analysts.

US tariffs on Chinese-built boxships to cost shippers millions

Reefer container production on downward trend

The production of reefer containers in 2023 will be significantly decreased compared with the previous year, according to DynaLiners report, which says the full year production of reefer boxes is estimated at 150,000 TEUs, compared to 282,000 TEUs in 2022.

From January to August 2023, the four reefer manufacturers, CIMC, Dong Fang, FUWA Guangdong and MCI, produced 113,000 TEUs of reefer containers.

New container shipping line established in Dubai

A new shipping company is starting operations and is going to enter Russia trade, according to DynaLiners report. CStar Line has been established in Dubai by undisclosed owners and will be headed by Zsolt Katona, who previously worked for Danish shipping giant Maersk.

SCFI reaches its highest point

Dynaliners reports that the Shanghai Containterized Freight Index (SCFI) reached its highest value since the index began reporting in 2009.

The index reached 1,664.56 on 6 November after gaining 134.57 points in a single week, reaching some 83.38 points higher than its previous high point in 2010.

According to Dynaliners, the index was hovering at around 1,000 points at the start of this year.
