Port of Halifax gets CA$7M to build container examination facility

The Canadian government is investing CA$7 million (US$5.4 million) to build a marine container examination facility within the Port of Halifax in Nova Scotia that the government says will significantly reduce inspection turnaround times and port congestion.

Government funding will come from the National Trade Corridors Fund. The Halifax Port Authority will invest $8 million for the project, putting the total project investment at $15 million.

Canadian Pacific, Hapag-Lloyd extend Port Saint John agreement

Container shipping line Hapag-Lloyd and Canadian Pacific Railway (NYSE: CP) are extending their rail service agreement to 2025 at the Port Saint John in New Brunswick, Canada.

Canadian Pacific celebrates expanded intermodal offerings in Eastern Canada

Canadian Pacific (NYSE: CP) launched its foray into Eastern Canada intermodal service on Tuesday, sending its first westbound intermodal train from Brownville Junction, Maine, and through the Port of St. John to greater Montreal.

The train, carrying containers from the Hapag-Lloyd vessel Detroit Express, was bound for Canadian and U.S. intermodal terminals on CP’s network, the railway said.

Canadian Pacific finalizes US portion of Atlantic Canada short line

Canadian Pacific (NYSE: CP) has been given the green light to own the portion of the Central Maine & Quebec (CMQ) Railway operating in the U.S.

The Surface Transportation Board approved CP’s acquisition of CMQ US on May 4. It became effective on Wednesday, June 3.  

CMQ will act as a subsidiary of CP. The acquisition of CMQ’s Canadian operations was finalized on December 30, 2019.
