Passenger-to-freighter conversions keep on humming

Leasing companies and airlines don’t appear concerned about oversaturating the air cargo market with freighters as they continue to place production orders despite a  yearlong downturn in air cargo volumes and rates. Airframe overhaul facilities are scrambling to keep up with the demand for converting used passenger jets into dedicated cargo jets.

Lessors remain optimistic about long-term growth projections for air cargo, fueled by the fast-fulfillment requirements of e-commerce, and are...

How expedited LTL shipping just became painless

If you do any less-than-truckload shipping, you’ve likely experienced the anxiety that comes with needing to move freight fast but seeing no expedited shipping option in your transportation management system.

But, you don’t have another choice; you still need to move those goods in one or two days. You’re forced to spend hours researching online and making phone calls to carriers, keeping your fingers crossed that one of them can move your shipment in your specific lane.

Leasing companies secure slots to convert aircraft for cargo

Close of a cargo aircraft with the side cargo door raised.

Several aircraft leasing companies on Thursday reserved production slots with aftermarket overhaul specialists to convert used passenger aircraft to cargo jets.

The flurry of transactions illustrates that cargo operators continue to have an appetite for large and standard freighters even as demand for air shipping cools off in a murky economic environment.

Lessors and investors have shown greater interest in freighters since the pandemic as airlines downsized and turned to more modern aircraft...

MasAir to more than double fleet with A330 converted freighters

A white cargo jet sits on the field. It has no markings yet after recently undergoing a conversion.

The first Airbus A320 passenger plane to be converted to a freighter configuration made its maiden flight Wednesday at an aerospace park in Singapore, the company behind the new design said.
