EIA: US crude oil production increases, imports remain strong

By augmenting the relatively light domestic crude oil production with relatively heavy crude oil imports, the United States has significantly increased its ability to export refined product, according to the US EIA.

In general, domestically produced crude oil is light when compared with imported oil.

For example, in 2018, 56% of the oil produced in Texas, the largest crude oil-producing state, was relatively light with an API gravity between 40 and 50 degrees.

At the same time, 58% of imported...

EIA: natural gas inventories to reach record levels

The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) in its latest February Short-Term energy outlook, estimates that the Lower 48 states’ working natural gas in storage will end in 2019-2020 winter heating season, at 1.935 billion cubic feet, meaning 12% more inventory in comparison to the previous five-year average.

In fact, this growth came due to the mild winter temperatures and the continuing strong production. EIA further expects that net injections during the refill season from April 1st until...

EIA amends global liquid fuels demand growth down because of COVID-19

The coronavirus has caused major disruption in the oil sector, as now the Energy Information Administration (EIA) states that the global liquid fuels demand will average 101.7 million barrels per day in 2020.

Specifically, EIA notes that although the global liquid fuels demand will average 101.7 million barrels per day (b/d) in 2020, meaning 1.0 million b/d more than the 2019 average, it will be 378,000 b/d less than what was forecast in the January 2020 edition of the Short-Term Energy Outlook...

EIA cuts global oil demand forecast amid coronavirus

The US Energy Information Administration cut its global oil demand growth forecast for 2020 by 310,000 barrels per day (bpd) as the coronavirus outbreak impedes oil consumption in China, the world’s second biggest economy.

Namely, the agency reduced its estimate for global demand in 2020 to an increase of 1.03 million bpd to 101.74 million bpd, according to Reuters.

The new coronavirus has cost the lives of 1,116 people, with confirmed cases exceeding 45,000, and has adversely affected global...
