Competition in Russian Far East stymies GRIs

Carriers’ attempts to implement general rate increases (GRIs) on the South Korea-Russian Far East route from August to September were unsuccessful due to growing capacity in the region.

Duwon Shipping joins Russian FE-South Korean league

South Korea’s Duwon Shipping, which transports general cargoes between South Korea and Russia’s Far East on its ro-ro vessels, is adding a passenger and container service to the route, joining a growing number of carriers offering Russian connections.

Emirates Shipping Line starts Russian FE-South Korea service

Dubai-based liner operator Emirates Shipping Line (ESL), is launching a Russian Far East-South Korea service, in another sign of growing cargo volumes along the route.

ESL will purchase slots on Korea Marine Transport Company’s (KMTC Line) Busan-Vladivostok Express (AVX) service, with the first voyage beginning 3 September 2020. KMTC Line is deploying a chartered vessel, the 342TEU Sunny Oak, to the service.
