Emirates taps Kalitta Air to fly rented 747 freighters

The air cargo division of Emirates has temporarily augmented its fleet with two older Boeing 747 jumbo jet freighters to meet expected demand while it waits for manufacturers to fill orders for new aircraft, the Dubai-based airline said Monday.

The 747-400s are being wet leased — a rental bundled with crews that fly the aircraft — and are currently being deployed to Chicago three times weekly and to Hong Kong nine times weekly. Emirates did not identify who is providing the transportation...

Emirates to retrofit 10 Boeing 777 jets for cargo

The airfreight division of Emirates said Tuesday it is more than doubling an initial order to convert used 777-300 passenger jets into cargo haulers, putting the fleet on track for 21 freighters by 2026 to meet shipper needs for more air transport. The airline is also beefing up short-term capacity in China, as exports there ramp up from China in the wake of multicity COVID quarantines.

Emirates invests in converted and new 777 freighters
