E-commerce, and strong air and sea sales saw Gebrüder Weiss enjoy an uptick in turnover in 2020, despite falling revenue in its land transport and logistics division.
The forwarder, which expanded last year, posted net sales of €1.77bn ($2.1bn), up 3.7%, but “various restrictions and the closure of some customers’ plants, especially during Q2” brought a 4.3% decline to €1.1bn in its land transport and logistics arm.

Shipping groups call on governments to back R&D plan to drive decarbonisation

Shipping groups have urged national governments to support a $5bn research and development plan to accelerate the decarbonisation of shipping.
The governments of Georgia, Greece, Japan, Liberia, Malta, Nigeria, Singapore and Switzerland today submitted a so-called “moon-shot” plan to the IMO’s Maritime Environmental Protection Committee (MEPC) to establish the IMO Maritime Research Fund, with a $5bn budget, paid for by “mandatory contributions from the world’s shipping companies”.

Help on hand for those struggling with logistics emission date reporting

Help is at hand for companies struggling to understand, and report accurately on, their logistics emissions.

Maersk and DFDS back development of Power-to-X ammonia project for green fuel

Maersk to launch the world’s first carbon-neutral box ship by 2023

Maersk Line announced today it would be operating the world’s first carbon-neutral containership by 2023 – some seven years earlier than planned. 
A company spokesman confirmed to The Loadstar that a newbuild 2,000 teu feeder vessel would be equipped with dual-fuel technology that would allow it to run on methanol or very-low-sulphur fuel oil (VLSFO).
