Carbon dioxide system didn’t activate, results to repeated efforts in handling engine room fire

The Swedish Club published its monthly safety scenario for March. In this month’s scenario, the Swedish Club describes an engine room fire that burst while the vessel was sailing. Leaking lube oil causes engine room fire on towing vessel

The NTSB issued an investigation report on the engine room fire and explosion onboard the towing vessel ‘J.W. Herron’ on Big Bayou Canot near Mobile, Alabama in December 2017. The report identified leaking lube oil from a propulsion diesel engine hose or tubing fitting that was ignited off an exposed hot engine surface, as the key cause of the accident.

USCG responds to disabled tanker off New York

The asphalt carrier ‘Amber Bay’ suffered an engine room fire as it began to depart the New York Harbor area, at the night of Wednesday, December 19. The vessel is disabled and the United States Coast Guard is coordinating the response operations.

Asphalt tanker suffers engine room fire off Nantucket

The Hong Kong-flagged tanker ‘Feng Huang AO’, with 21 crew aboard, suffered a fire ignite in its engine room while transiting 57 miles southeast of Nantucket Island, in the Atlantic Ocean, on 5 October early morning, the US Coast Guard informed.
