Ariane has just wrapped a test transatlantic voyage of its 10,000 tonne ‘Canopée’ cargo vessel, which can carry its Ariane rockets, says an article published on Advanced-television.

Sails deployed

The ship’s voyage left Rotterdam on December 27th and took 17 days to reach French Guiana. It arrived at the port of Pariacabo on January 13th. It can manage a speed of 17 knots.

The Polish-built Canopée can sail with or without its sails deployed. It is 121 metres long, and...

Five Practical Steps To Tackle Portside Pollution

Cavotec, in its twitter page, describes the five steps needed to take charge of portside pollution.

Shipping emissions

The shipping industry is responsible for more than 2.5% of the world’s emissions. If the shipping sector were a country, it would be the sixth largest polluter in the world. But this can be changed.

We have the technology today that can be retrofitted to existing ships to reduce harmful emissions. We also have the technology to upgrade our ports to reduce pollution. All it takes...

Onboard Carbon Capture & Storage is Technically Viable, Concludes Study

TECO 2030 ASA completes Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) feasibility study with AVL, says an article published on their website.

CO2 emission reduction

The shipping industry can reduce CO2 emission dramatically by installing onboard Carbon Capture and Storage equipment. This is an important part of reducing shipping’s environmental footprint.

Joint feasibility study

The feasibility study jointly conducted between TECO 2030 and AVL has concluded that onboard Carbon Capture and Storage is technically...

Manufacturing Alternative Fuel Without Environmental Footprint

An enormous engine that generally propels large ships across the sea is now being used by engineers for testing liquid ammonia, reports BBC.

The ground-breaking project

An enormous engine, at a test centre in Copenhagen is being supervised by engineers from a control room resembling a ship’s bridge.

Such an engine that would be propelling a large ship across the sea, is now being prepared to take part in a project where engineers want to see if it runs on liquid ammonia.

Commercial fishing, plastic major part of environmental crisis

The environmental crisis is most challenging than ever, with the seas being warmer than at any point in the human history and life underwater is facing many threats. Thus, the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14 “Life Under Water” establishes a wide-ranging goal to “conserve and sustainably use the world’s oceans, seas and marine resources”.

The severity of the environmental crisis is demonstrated by the plight of perhaps the single most important marine ecosystem: coral reefs.

Reefs play an...

Sustainability: We are not telling shipping’s story well enough

During the 2020 SAFETY4SEA London Forum, Dustin Eno, COO, Navigate Response, analyzed how the global interest in shipping’s environmental footprint has doubled in the last decade.

When it comes to crisis communication, I help our clients deal with the media and social media associated with classic vessel incidents: collisions, groundings, fires, fatalities. This is the bread and butter of what we do at Navigate Response, but increasingly the challenges facing shipping are changing.

Sustainability...

Hybrid electric commuter boat launched in Stockholm

The retrofit of the M/S Rex for hybrid operation, undertaken by Transdev subsidiary, Blidösundsbolaget, and Scania, included the adaptation of automotive technology for maritime use.

Stockholm’s transport authority has started using more of the city’s waterways, providing to locals shorter and quicker routes to and from work. Yet, given that about the 80% of Stockholm’s transport fleet of owned and leased vessels are far from achieving carbon neutrality, the city applauded the conversion of the...
