EPA starts uncertain attempt to revoke several California truck emissions waivers

The Environmental Protection Agency has sent to Congress for review several vehicle emission-related waivers that the agency granted to California under the Biden administration.

It’s being billed as the first step toward revoking the waivers that allowed California to proceed with the Advanced Clean Trucks Rule, the Omnibus NOx rule and the Clean Cars II rule. California has sought to impose state rules that are tighter than federal regulations.

EPA awards $1 million to New Orleans container port project

The Port of New Orleans announced Monday that it was awarded $1 million from the Environmental Protection Agency for its Louisiana International Terminal (LIT) Sustainability Management Plan (SMP).

The $1.8 billion LIT will be located along the Mississippi River on 400 acres in Violet, St. Bernard Parish. Battles over California’s Advanced Clean Trucks rule rage far beyond state line

With slightly tightened restrictions under the California Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) rule having gone into effect at the start of 2025 and the prospect of numerous states following the Golden State’s lead, the regulatory world has been awash in dueling communications on the subject.

On a microeconomic level, the ACT has led to the halting of some truck sales in Oregon. But a bigger battle is taking shape across multiple states.

Unlike its sister regulation, the Advanced Clean Fleets (ACF) rule,...

EPA OKs California’s tighter diesel NOx rule; can waiver survive under Trump?

The Environmental Protection Agency has granted a waiver to California to implement the state’s “Omnibus” regulation that tightens rules for nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions from diesel engines.

The EPA also on Wednesday granted a waiver for the Advanced Clean Cars Rule II (ACC II), the second iteration of the state’s tighter emission standards governing automobiles. It is aimed at ceasing all sales of cars with internal combustion engines by 2035 and replacing them with zero-emission vehicles...

Question over ability of California to be granted environmental waivers headed to SCOTUS

California’s zero emission regulations impacting trucking will be in the background as the Supreme Court takes up the question of the ability of the federal government to issue a waiver that allows the Golden State to implement tougher environmental rules than the rest of the country.

The Court Friday agreed to grant certiorari of an appeal from Diamond Alternative Energy. Diamond is the biofuels arm of Valero Energy (NYSE: VLO), the large independent refining company that has operations in...
