German seaports increase the volume of cargo in 2018

German seaports handled 304.7 million tons of seaborne goods during 2018. This is an increase of 1.7%, in comparison to 2017, as the German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) announced in the beginning of this week.

In addition, the number of goods which German seaports received from other ports rose by 2%. Moreover, the shipping of goods from German seaports over the world’s oceans grew slightly by 1.8%.

Port of Rotterdam to stop UK livestock imports in case of no-deal Brexit

The Port of Rotterdam will stop the imports of livestock from the UK in April, as a key inspection point at the Port is not ready yet. As Mark Dijk, the port’s manager of external affairs, informed they experience some problems, including livestock. Brexit is now scheduled for April 12, instead of the original deadline of March 29.

Port of Amsterdam: New berths operational at Afrikahaven

A number of new berths have been added for inland shipping in the mouth of the Afrikahaven, the Port of Amsterdam reported. The berths became operational last week, and they are specially designed for tankers carrying flammable materials.

ESPO supports EU’s agreement on CEF II

The European Seaports Organisation (ESPO) welcomed the Common Understanding between the European Parliament and the Council on the future Connecting Europe Facility (CEF II). Port of Marseille supports blockchain pilot scheme

The Marseille Fos port authority will be among the financial supporters of a blockchain technology pilot scheme that aims to demonstrate improved freight logistics on the Mediterranean-Rhone-Saone (MeRS) axis.

ESPO approves the agreement on the European Maritime Single Window Environment

ECSA and WSC have welcomed the agreement reached by the European Parliament, the Council and the European Commission in their ‘trilogue discussions’ on the European Maritime Single Window environment proposal last week.
