Are there any lessons learned from 50 years of offshore oil disasters?

Oil spill incidents seem to occur more nowadays. Thinking of major oil spills, there were three major ones that took place in the US, starting from Santa Barbara in 1969, Exxon Valden in 1989 and Deepwater Horizon in 2010.

According to Ocean Conservancy, the three oil spills highlight a pattern according to which a major offshore oil disaster occurs in the United States every two decades. Each spill is worse than the last, increasing from 3 million to 11 million to 210 million gallons spilled....

Alaskan Senator permanently reauthorizes oil spill fund

US Senator Dan Sullivan introduced the Spill Response and Prevention Surety Act, legislation to modify and permanently reauthorize the federal Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund. On Monday, U.S. Sen. Dan Sullivan, R-Alaska, introduced the Spill Response and Prevention Surety Act to modify and permanently reauthorize the federal Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund.
