Gov. Bob Ferguson puts pause on two WSF hybrid-electric conversions

Though he remains committed to electrification and building new ferries, Washington State Gov. Bob Ferguson announced yesterday that he will delay hybrid-electric conversion for two of the state’s largest ferries, putting Washington on the path to restoring full domestic ferry service by this summer. As a result of this plan, Washington State Ferries will have 18 operating vessels in the water for the first time since 2019.

Kongsberg will play key role in conversion of Öresundlinjen’s MF Hamlet to hybrid

Helsingborg, Sweden-headquartered Öresundlinjen, a subsidiary of Denmark’s Molslinjen, is to convert its double ended car ferry MF Hamlet to emissions-free battery operation. The 1967-built vessel, which has a capacity for 1,000 passengers and about 250 cars, operates on the three nautical mile route between Helsingør, Denmark, and Helsingborg, Sweden.

Flagship Cruises gets $15.2M grant to build two all-electric ferries

Auckland, New Zealand-based foiling e-ferry pioneer Vessev has appointed John Scott as chairman of the board.
