Viking claims hydrogen-powered cruise ship world first for Viking Libra

Viking (NYSE: VIK) and Fincantieri today announced details of the Viking Libra, the world’s first hydrogen-powered cruise ship, capable of operating with zero emissions. They also announced that contracts have been signed for two additional ocean ships for delivery in 2031 and an option for two additional ocean ships for delivery in 2033.

DFO awards Vard EUR 113M subsea construction vessel contract

Fincantieri’s Norwegian subsidiary Vard reports that it has signed a contract with Taiwan-based Dong Fang Offshore (DFO) for the design and construction of one offshore subsea construction vessel of Vard 3 39 design. The EUR 113.5 million contract includes options for additional vessels.

The hull of the vessel will be built in Vard Shipyards Braila in Romania, while the outfitting, commissioning and delivery will be from Vard Søviknes in Norway. Delivery is scheduled to be in second quarter 2027.

Fincantieri firms up NCL’s order for its four largest ships yet

Fincantieri reports that the letter of intent that it signed with Norwegian Cruise Lines Holdings (NCLH) in April last year (see earlier story) has been transformed into a firm order for the construction of four new cruise ships, destined for the Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) brand.

The value of this agreement, subject to financing and other typical terms and conditions, is considered by Fincantieri to be “very important” – meaning that it is worth more than EUR 2 billion.
