What happened?

According to reports, fire was said to be extinguished. The exact site of fire, damages and other accident details still remain unknown.

Fire erupted on board of Thai general cargo ship Bangpakaew in cargo holds area, at around 1530 LT (UTC +7) on June 16.

The ship was under way, moving from Vung Tau to Ho Chi Minh City port.

Probable cause

Unattended to fumigation tubes are thought to be the source of the fire, while cargo of cattle feed was under fumigation.

NTSB investigation: Ignition of fuel leaking leads to vessel fire and sinking

NTSB issued an investigation report on the fire onboard and subsequent sinking of the fishing vessel Ariel, while in Sheep Bay, Alaska, in August 2019. The investigation identified ignition of fuel leaking from the generator fuel supply line as key cause of the fire.

Equipment on fire at Bristol Port

According to an announcement by the Bristol Port, fire broke out at Bristol Port’s Royal Portbury Docks on 28th March during loading operations.

Ro-ro vessel hit by fire off Port of Santa Cruz

On 22 February, the ro-ro cargo vessel called “Volcán de Teneguía” reported a fire incident onboard, after leaving Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands. In fact, the freight ship was loaded with vehicles and other cargo so as to deliver them to its final destination, Port of Cadiz, Spain.
