Navy accepts delivery of USNS Robert F. Kennedy (T-AO 208)

The Navy took delivery of the fourth ship in the John Lewis-class fleet oiler program, the USNS Robert F. Kennedy (T-AO 208) from shipbuilder General Dynamics NASSCO on Dec. 10.

Delivery followed the completion of integrated sea trials where the ship’s readiness and capabilities were tested and validated to delivery requirements.

Detyens wins $16.4 million MSC contract

Detyens Shipyards Inc., North Charleston, S.C., has been awarded a $16,485,523 firm-fixed-price contract for a 70-calendar day shipyard availability for the mid-term availability of Military Sealift Command’s Henry J. Kaiser class fleet replenishment oiler USNS Patuxent (T-AO 201).

Alabama Shipyard LLC, Mobile, Ala., has been awarded an $8,698,054 firm-fixed-price contract for a 75-calendar day shipyard availability for the mid-term availability of the Military Sealift Command (MSC) fleet replenishment oiler USNS Laramie (T-AO 203).

Delivered by Avondale Shipyards in 1996, the USNS Laramie is the seventeenth ship in the Henry J. Kaiser class, and one of only three to be built with a double bottom to meet the requirements of the Oil Pollution Act of 1990.
