By Lisa Baertlein LONG BEACH, Calif., Feb 28 (Reuters) – The former Amazon.com Inc executive who oversaw the e-commerce company’s transportation network buildout for its sellers, now aims to do the same for rival shipping customers as chief executive of logistics startup Flexport. “I wanted to … do it again for everyone else,” said Dave Clark, the former Amazon executive who will become Flexport CEO on March 1 after spending six months as co-CEO. Getting big is the key to success, Clark said at...

The San Francisco-based logistics company said more automated systems and reduced shipping volumes mean it has more employees than it needs.

The news follows job cuts in the logistics and tech sectors in recent months.

Sources: Clarke would seriously consider C.H. Robinson CEO job

Andrew Clarke, the former CFO at brokerage giant C.H. Robinson Worldwide Inc., would seriously consider an offer from the board to return to the company as CEO following last week’s abrupt firing of president and CEO Bob Biesterfeld, according to sources familiar with the situation.

Clarke, who served as the Eden Prairie, Minnesota-based company’s CFO from 2015-19, would consider it a “fascinating opportunity” to assume the helm of the nation’s largest broker and $25 billion company, said one of...

chart showing container service reliability

A year ago, fear was a big driver of the supply chain crunch: fear that goods wouldn’t arrive on time, stoked by headlines warning that shipping delays could “cancel Christmas.” It became a vicious cycle. The threat of delays caused importers to max out orders and bring them forward, causing more delays.

Importers ordered too much in late 2021, and to avoid another holiday scramble, they shipped in seasonal goods early in 2022. This front-loading alleviated pressure on the supply chain in the...
