Bosch’s RevX rolls up available spot loads

If freight brokers weren’t so preoccupied with celebrating competitor missteps, one of them might have beaten Robert Bosch to RevX — a spot load aggregation tool that also flags double brokering.

The cloud-based RevX is the second product from the German auto supplier’s global Logistics Operating System (L.OS), aimed at simplifying technology and operational processes in transportation and logistics. L.OS launched in December with a goal of generating more than $540 million in freight-related...

Is Nikola counting too much on California for salvation?

Nikola Corp.’s ability to escape near-death experiences is being tested by shouldering the $61.8 million cost of repairing its fire-prone battery electric trucks. But California’s generous incentives for electric trucks may be a path to survival as the startup’s latest peril plays out.

“California is a state on the cutting edge of technology and has big tailwinds for the transition to zero-emissions trucking with both carrots and sticks from government incentives and regulations,” Nikola CEO...

Girsky’s goal at Nikola: Don’t ‘screw up the momentum’

Steve Girsky knows Nikola Corp. as well as anyone. He was instrumental in bringing the electric truck and hydrogen distributor public via SPAC, and he chaired the board for a tumultuous two and a half years of federal investigations and setbacks.

Now, as the company prepares to commercially ship hydrogen-powered fuel cell trucks to customers, he has one near-term goal as the third CEO in a year: Don’t “screw up the momentum.”

Girsky gave his first one-on-one interview as CEO to FreightWaves on...

The order bank covers bookings by 18 end users, some of which are trying out the trucks in demonstration programs. Most of the agreements are direct deals between fleets and Nikola dealers. Series production is underway at Nikola’s plant in Coolidge, Arizona. Deliveries are...

Cash-strapped Nikola Corp. is selling its stake in a European joint venture with Iveco Group for $35 million and 20.6 million shares of Nikola stock. It will prioritize hydrogen and fuel cell trucks in North America and phase out battery-electric models except for special orders.

The end of the joint venture, formed in 2019 when CNH Industrial invested $250 million in cash and partial ownership of a plant in Ulm, Germany, far from ends the relationship.

Commentary: Do environmental regulations really push markets?

The views expressed here are solely those of the author and do not necessarily represent the views of FreightWaves or its affiliates.

Being first in something is not always laudable. For instance, on June 25, 2020 California mandated that truck manufacturers produce increasingly higher percentages of zero-emission vehicles. This mandate applies to any truck manufacturers of Class 2 (e.g., light trucks like the Ford F-150) through Class 8 (e.g., tractors suitable for 18-wheel semi-trailers).

The...
