Rewarding drivers for fuel-efficient behavior goes a long way

Fuel economy is a hot topic and the ongoing focus on reducing fuel waste is expected to continue into the new year. Carriers hoping to see improvements should increase their attention on the relationship between fuel efficiency and driving behavior.

Historically, carriers have relied heavily on equipment improvements to provide improved fuel efficiency to their fleets. Truck manufacturers have integrated new technologies into vehicles, allowing for significant average mile-per-gallon...

Tesla Tops The Chart Of Making The Most Fuel Efficient Vehicles !

Credit: Tesla Fans Schweiz/ unsplash
  • Tesla cars consume the least fuel when converted to the miles per gallon metric.
  • It is followed by Japanese or Korean brands like Subaru, Kia, Hyundai, Toyota, Honda, and Mazda.
  • Then come the German automakers, while the gas-guzzling trend puts GM, Ford, or Stellantis, at a disadvantage.

Despite the consumer trend towards bigger and heavier vehicles with more horsepower in the past few years, most manufacturers managed to improve the fuel economy of their...

Navistar’s new internal combustion engine will be its last

Navistar LT with trailer on track at Las Vegas International Speedway

LAS VEGAS — Navistar Inc.’s S13 integrated powertrain for its on-highway trucks is the manufacturer’s last new internal combustion engine. It is the strongest signal yet that legacy truck makers are embracing electric trucks with zero tailpipe emissions.

Combined with aerodynamic styling, the new powertrain that goes into production in July 2023 offers up to 15% better fuel efficiency than the current A26 engine and Eaton Cummins Endurant transmission in Navistar’s flagship on-highway...

Despite what the pump reads, fuels savings still a possibility

The price of diesel currently stands around $5 per gallon, up approximately $1.74 since September. Bob Bortner, mid-Atlantic territory manager for commercial tire and fleet solutions leader IMI, said diesel costs have risen approximately $1.74 since September.

He believes it’s doubtful the pumps will show mercy anytime soon, but that doesn’t mean fuel savings aren’t possible. Facing nearly vertical price hikes, fleets must get creative.

“The most important factor in fuel [efficiency] for a...
