VIDEO: Barge strikes Pelican Island bridge

Response efforts have been ongoing since a 321-foot barge carrying bunker fuel yesterday slammed into the bridge connecting Galveston with Pelican Island, the site of the Texas A&M Maritime Academy. The barge, the MMLP 321 operated by Martin Petroleum, was reportedly carrying 30,000 barrels of vacuum gas oil.

Seaside LNG to start Galveston bunkering operation

Seaside LNG has reached a term bunkering agreement with Carnival Corporation & plc that will see it fuel the first LNG powered cruise ship to homeport in Galveston, Texas, the Carnival Jubilee.

Seaside LNG will move its bunkering barge Clean Jacksonville, acquired from TOTE Maritime Puerto Rico, LLC in February this year, from Jacksonville, Fla., to Galveston, where it will serve the Texas Gulf Coast makingits first LNG delivery to the Carnival Jubilee in December 2023.

How did the 1900 hurricane forever change the Texas shipping industry?

On Sept. 8, 1900, a Category 4 hurricane smashed on shore in Galveston, an island city of about 38,000 people on the Gulf Coast of Texas. 

The hurricane had maximum winds surpassing 135 miles per hour and a storm surge that inundated as much as a third of the city with 5 to 12 feet of water.

The wind and storm surge killed as many as 12,000 people along the Gulf Coast and at least 6,000 on Galveston Island. It remains the deadliest natural disaster in U.S. history in terms of loss of human life.

Pacific-Gulf Marine assigned Marad training ship

Pacific-Gulf Marine (PGM) has been appointed general agent by the U.S. Maritime Administration (Marad) to provide full ship management services in support of the training ship General Rudder.
