What happened?

General cargo ship ELISE broke off her fore moorings and was rotated across river Arun at Littlehampton, West Sussex, UK, English Channel, in the afternoon Sep 18. 

The ship was in ballast with her stern remaining stationary at berth and her portside anchor down. 

River was blocked

She blocked the river such that even kayaks couldn’t pass her.

General cargo ship TEJO ALGES reported fire in engine room at around 1030 UTC Sep 1 in Bay of Biscay, north of Ferrol, Spain. At the time of the incident, she was  en route from Ferrol to Greenore, Ireland.

Thought fire was extinguished by crew, fire had damaged and disabled TEJO ALGES.

2 Cargo Vessels Meet With Accident

Maritime Bulletin reports of 2 cargo ship accidents in the EU waters and China.

EU waters

Dutch general cargo ship was disabled on August 25 while en route to France. The vessel was taken on tow late August 25, to be towed to destination.

China

A 15,500-ton general cargo ship ran aground in Pearl River Delta early in the morning August 26, straying off fairway.

She was refloated 12 hours later with tugs assistance. The vessel is under tow and is probably damaged.

Stowaways On-Board General Cargo Carrier
