  • The ongoing climate emergency makes the need to reduce emissions from shipping more urgent than ever.
  • While there is no single fuel that can replace HFO, there is a solution available in the very short term which will lower fuel costs and emissions.
  • Wind is, without a doubt, the fastest, cheapest way that shipping can reduce emissions in line with climate science.

Shipping’s singular focus on alternative fuels to lower costs and GHG emissions ignores the most...

$4.3. Million Financial Support for IMO GHG Emission Strategy!

Partnerships and innovations are essential to combat climate change through reductions in GHG emissions. Keeping this in mind, Norway has provided an additional NOK 40,000,000 (US$4.3. million) to the IMO-Norway GreenVoyage-2050 project, which will support GHG reductions in line with the IMO initial strategy for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from shipping, says an article published in Sea News.

Turning Emissions Into Fuel

According to an article published in Marine Propulsion, channelling vapour from oil cargoes for use in ship engines led to an Emissions Reduction Award for the partners behind an innovative shuttle tanker configuration.

Teekay’s new shuttle tanker design cuts emissions both from the funnel and from the oil cargo.

How is it made possible?

The combined design work of Wärtsilä and Teekay Offshore on Aurora Spirit – the first of a series of innovative hybrid shuttle tankers – secured the Emissions...

IMO Partners With Norway for a New GHG Emission Strategy

  • IMO announced a Norway funded greenhouse gas emission strategy.
  • The Green Voyage 2050 is a strategy to counter emissions by providing technical solutions and global coordination in exchanging knowledge and information.
  • The $1.1 million Norway funded project will spread over 14 regions and more than 50 countries.
  • The initial plan is to put the onus on 8 countries from the participating 50 which will then spur actions from the other countries of that region.
  • With an initial period of funding...
