Pilot boat Fort Ripley returns to Gladding-Hearn for refit and repower

The Charleston Branch Pilots have returned the pilot boat Fort Ripley to Gladding-Hearn for a refit and repower after 10 years of continuous service for the port of Charlestown. The all-aluminum vessel will also be fitted with a new Seakeeper 40 gyro stabilizer.

Refit gives Boston Pilots’ launch a new 20-year lease on life

Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding, Duclos Corporation, has delivered the first of two Boston Pilots‘ Chesapeake-class pilot boats that have been undergoing a comprehensive refit, at its Somerset, Mass, shipyard.

Lake Charles Pilots order fourth launch from Gladding-Hearn

Louisiana’s Lake Charles pilots, who already have three Gladding-Hearn pilot boats in their fleet, have ordered another launch from the Somerset, Mass., shipyard.

The Association of Maryland Pilots has ordered its fourth Chesapeake Class launch from Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding, Duclos Corp. Delivery is scheduled for December 2020.

Boatbuilder George Raymond Duclos dead at 86

Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding’s George Raymond Duclos, age 86, died peacefully on Feb. 15, 2020, surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late Raymond and Albertine (Bertha Chenard) Duclos. Born in 1933 in Fall River, Mass., Duclos spent most of his life in Westport, Mass., spending summers on the Watuppa Pond and moving to the Pond permanently in the 1960s.
