Flexport has told customers it welcomes the newfound riches of the shipping lines – and that the “last thing” the industry needs is another box line bankruptcy.
At a customer event last week, chief executive Ryan Petersen said: “The shipping lines are finally turning a profit, and they built these huge expensive ships, so let’s not get too upset.
“It’s a relatively competitive market – less than it was, but it’s still …

Global trade still flowing nicely, but international investment is sticky

Despite the rise of trade conflicts and xenophobic populism around the planet, globalisation is not in retreat, according to Global Connectedness Index (GCI) published by DHL.
Findings from the integrator’s Resilience360 subsidiary paint a more worrying picture of international trade, however.
The GCI, an annual barometer of international flows of goods, capital, information and people that DHL presented on December 4, shows a slight overall dip for 2018.

Globalisation ‘too big to fail’, and Brexit and Trump haven’t dented trade either

Protectionist backlash sweeping across the world will not dent globalisation in the long-term, according to DHL Express chief executive John Pearson.
He told journalists yesterday, at the launch of DHL’s Global Connectedness Index report, the “fundamentals” of trade were as “strong as they have ever been”.
“Globalisation is too big to fail,” he said, “and this wave of populism we have experienced over the past two to three years is a wave we …
