Auto hauler Jack Cooper, severely damaged by the loss of its two key customers, is closing.
In an email sent Monday to Jack Cooper’s employees and obtained by FreightWaves, CEO Sarah Amico, who also is the primary owner of the family-controlled business, said “it is with extraordinary sadness that we are writing to let you know that after 97 years in business, Jack Cooper will be closing our doors in the near future.”

Mexico’s automotive industry exports 289,309 vehicles in November
Mexican authorities said they are on track to produce and export a record number of passenger vehicles and pickup trucks in 2024.
From January through November, auto factories in Mexico produced 3.7 million units, a 5.6% year-over-year increase, according to data released Friday from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).
Pickup trucks accounted for 76% of total vehicles produced at Mexican auto factories during the first 11 months of the year, INEGI said.

GM to provide hydrogen fuel cells for heavy-duty work trucks
General Motors Co. and Autocar Industries announced a collaboration to create a range of zero-emissions heavy-duty vehicles powered by GM’s Hydrotec power cubes.
The heavy-duty trucks are expected to go into production in 2026 at the Autocar plant in Birmingham, Alabama, starting with roll-off and dump trucks and cement mixers. Autocar will also eventually produce refuse trucks and terminal tractors using Hydrotec power cubes.

Wabtec (NYSE: WAB) and General Motors (NYSE: GM) are collaborating on bringing battery and fuel cell technology to the freight locomotive.
