Hamad Port Receives Largest Container Vessel

Hamad Port Wednesday received the largest container vessel since the start of its operations, with the arrival of the MV Berlin Express, owned and operated by the German shipping liner Hapag Lloyd, reports Zawya.

At a length of 400m, a width of 61m, and a draft of 16m, the LNG dual-fuel propelled vessel flies the flag of Germany, and can carry 23,664 TEUs.

Qatar ports see more vessels in July

The ports in Qatar have registered a significant growth in July 2019 regarding number of vessels calling at Hamad Port, Doha Port and Ruwais Port when compared to June this year.

The three ports also handled more cargo in July this year when compared to June 2019 on month-on-month basis.

A total of 377 vessels called at Hamad Port, Doha Port and Ruwais Port in July this year, compared to 318 vessels in June 2019 which is an over 18 percent increase in vessels movement on month-on-month basis.

Ports in Qatar enjoy significant growth

Qatar’s maritime sector has delivered strong performance in the first quarter of this year. Hamad Port, Ruwais Port, and Doha Port have registered all-round growth in cargo and passenger traffic during January-March quarter of 2019, showing the robustness of Qatar’s maritime sector.

The ports handled 110,938 tonnes of building materials during the first quarter, reflecting 37 percent growth, compared to the same quarter last year.

QTerminals to offer incentives to key players

QTerminals has announced that it will offer incentives to the main shipping lines that have direct services calling on Hamad Port and do not transship within a range of 250Nm from the port.

The incentives will come into effect from Friday and the nature and mechanism of their application will be revealed later, the company said on Thursday, as reported by the official Qatar News Agency.

Container traffic in Qatar rises

Doha: Ports in Qatar have started the year on a positive note as container traffic has increased in January. According to the data by Mwani Qatar, the ports handled 110,394 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEU) containers in the first month of this year, compared to 103,996 TEU containers in January 2018. Mwani Qatar manages Hamad Port, Doha Port and Ruwais Port in the country.
