FY2021 budget would slash waterways funding, impose user fees

President Trump’s FY2021 budget for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers repeats a familiar playbook used by both his and previous administrations to impose deep spending cuts for the agency that oversees the inland waterways system and new fees on the navigation industry that Congress has continually rejected.

Great Lakes Towing christens another 64′ ICE harbor tug

The Great Lakes Towing Co., Cleveland, celebrated its 120th Anniversary with the christening of its newest tugboat, the 64’x24’x11′ Michigan. The new tug is the third in a series of five Damen 1907 ICE design harbor tugs that Great Lakes Shipyard is building for The Great Lakes Towing Company’s operation.

Dakota Creek Industries, Anacortes, Wash., is building four newly designed yard tugs for the U.S. Navy.

The Navy currently plans to deploy the four new tugs at U.S. military bases in the Pacific Northwest Region and Yokosuka, Japan. They are intended to perform ship-handling duties for the full range of Navy surface warships and submarines. For this purpose, the tugs are equipped with an array of underwater fendering as well as typical resilient style fenders for handling surface ships.
