Jaxport welcomes largest container ship to call

The Jacksonville Port Authority on Tuesday celebrated the largest vessel ever to call the Florida port. 

The container ship, One Stork, has a carrying capacity of 14,000 twenty-foot equivalent units. Previously the largest ship to call Jaxport had a capacity of 11,923 TEUs.

Jaxport ready for larger container ships

Jaxport on Monday celebrated the completion of the deepening of 11 miles of the federal shipping channel to 47 feet. 

The St. Johns River shipping channel from Mayport Naval Station to Jacksonville, Florida’s, Blount Island had been 40 feet deep.

South Carolina Ports encouraged by steady rebound

The South Carolina Ports Authority (SCPA) looked on the bright side when reporting August volumes. Yes, the number of twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) handled in August was down 10% year-over-year, but the performance was 18% better than the month before.

JAXPORT expands funding for harbor deepening

JAXPORT was awarded $75 million this week to help deepen its harbor.

The Jacksonville, Florida, port authority called the $35 million grant and $40 million loan approved by the City Council a “historic win for our community and the 15,000 jobs that will be created or protected” by the project.
