Port of New Orleans sees bump in breakbulk cargo

The Port of New Orleans reported a 4% year-over-year increase in breakbulk cargo volume in May, fueled by shipments of rubber, steel and heavy-lift/project cargo.

The port handled 147,921 tons of breakbulk cargo for the month, compared to 141,869 tons in May 2020.

New Orleans also handled 50,801 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in May, a 0.1% decrease compared to the same period last year.

Chipolbrok enters the Australia trades; Quay Shipping appointed as agent

Break-bulk, project cargo and heavy lift specialist Chipolbrok will enter the Australia trade, according to Brisbane-based Quay Shipping, which has been appointed as the company’s exclusive agent.

SAL expands US project cargo footprint with Intermarine

Germany’s SAL Heavy Lift Group, an ocean transporter of the world’s largest and heaviest shipments, has acquired a major stake in Intermarine, expanding its presence in the U.S. project cargo market.
