ITF demands immediate action to ensure the safety of seafarers in the Red Sea

Yesterday was IMO’s Day of the Seafarer, with this year’s theme being “Navigating the Future – Safety First.” Both IMO Secretary General Arsenio Dominguez and UN Secretary General António Guterres marked the day with messages underscoring that seafarer safety is currently under grave threat from Houthi attacks in the Red Sea. And the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) and seafarers’ unions demanded action on the issue.

Bulker survives multiple missile strikes as Houthi attacks mount

Shipowners and charterers who are averse to taking calculated risks with their ships, cargo and crew may have to divert even further to avoid Houthi attacks. Can Prosperity Guardian plans counter Houthi threat to shipping?

Ahead of a widely expected announcement from U. S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin the Norwegian Government said today that the U.S. has taken the initiative to strengthen international efforts to secure civilian shipping in the Red Sea through an operation called Prosperity Guardian.
